Make sure to complete the following steps before attempting to set up an import connection in SAP Analytics Cloud in SAP Consulting Services.

  • A cloud connector has been set up.
  • The agent for SAP Analytics Cloud has been set up.
  • Both the source system and SAP Analytics Cloud have produced the user ID needed to set up the connection to the source.
  • The source system grants the user ID the required security access.

The next steps are as follows:

  • The Connections page in SAP Analytics Cloud must be visited as the initial step in configuring an import connection. To access the main Connections page in SAP Analytics Cloud, click the Connections icon in the left-hand menu, as shown in the image below.
  • The Name and Type of the connection are listed on the Connections page. The connection type (import vs. live data) and source are listed in the Type field. The Type column indicates that the sources are SAP S/4HANA and SAP BW, and the connections are Live Data connections.
  • For SAP S/4HANA, there are two potential connections. S/4 HANA – DIRECT designates a connection to an on-premises SAP S/4HANA system. The third connection option is to a system running SAP S/4HANA Cloud. For reporting and planning, a customer using SAP S/4HANA Cloud can also use SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • All potential sources for the import data connection type are described under Acquire Data (import data connection). You can also filter the list based on the type of data source because there are numerous alternatives (Cloud versus On-Premise, ERP versus Data Warehouse, etc.). To set up the connection parameters for this example, select an SAP S/4HANA connection. The new connection screen will then open as shown below. Depending on the source selected, different criteria need to be kept in mind.
  • The following are the primary inputs for an SAP S/4HANA source:
  1. Connection Name/Description: The connection’s name ought to serve as a distinctive identifier.
  2. Link to an On-Premise S/4HANA instance: Due to the fact that we are configuring a connection to an on-premise system, this option must be checked. The source should not have been SAP S/4HANA Cloud, hence this option shouldn’t be selected.
  3. Location: The site must be the Default Location
  4. Data Service URL: This is the hostname and port number combination for the connection.
  5. Authentication Type: There are two possibilities for an SAP S/4HANA source: basic authentication and no authentication. The appropriate access levels for this username and password should be present in the SAP S/4HANA source. Once this is done and the connection is established, the user name and password don’t need to be entered again when the source data import is being used.
